Let’s be real, we have all been there: reaching for our phone just to check the time, only to find ourselves trapped in endless doomscrolling an hour later. Instead of picking up a book, going for a walk, or pursuing passions that truly recharge us, screen time quietly takes over our days. Recognizing how deeply digital overload affects us, our team decided to step in and hit the pause button.

From September 3 to 6, twenty participants from Hungary gathered in the scenic town of Eger for the Digital Detox Camp. The initiative offered young people a structured space to step away from notifications, rediscover offline presence and connect with one another.

The weekend began on a light-hearted note. During the opening evening, participants broke the ice with interactive team-building and boardgames, creating an open atmosphere before officially putting their smartphones aside.

The first full screen-free day dove straight into self-reflection. Guided workshops encouraged participants to unpack their digital consumption habits, understand personal triggers, and identify their inner motivation to disconnect. The day concluded with a relaxed group walk and an evening journaling session set against a peaceful sunset over the hills of Eger.

On the second day of the digital detox, the focus shifted to creating sustainable lifestyle changes. Together, the group explored engaging offline alternatives and practical strategies for stress management and daily focus. Through open discussions, participants exchanged concrete methods to bring these mindful habits back home, e.g. setting digital boundaries and creating phone-free zones in their everyday routines. An afternoon hike through the surrounding landscape offered fresh air, physical movement, and space for a shared final reflection of the key takeaways and insights.

As the Digital Detox Camp came to an end, participants had not only spent an entire weekend away from digital noise, but had also reconnected with nature, one another, and themselves. At SOYA, we are proud to have enabled this experience, showing firsthand that logging off opens space for genuine connection, focus, and creativity.
